Art has always been my true passion. From childhood, I was always drawing and painting, with a particular fascination for the face, and the mysteries that can be conveyed through the features.
After completing art at A level, I read English Literature at University, as writing is another expressive form that appeals to me. At University my desire to paint portraits continued to develop, as I began selling work and getting commissions.
Upon completing my degree, I studied sculpture, as this further solidified my knowledge of the structure of the body and the flow of organic design. I worked for some time producing sculptures commercially, but continued to produce portraits on commission, honing my skills and constantly learning with different media.
I have now devoted myself fully to my first and truest passion, and through this website, I can explore my portraiture with others, and bring pleasure and comfort through my work.
I have lived in the UK all my life, and currently reside in the pleasant market town of Darlington. This is where my home studio is based, and this is where all work is produced and shipped from.
I have an interest in many other expressive forms, particularly literature, and music. I play guitar and enjoy the outdoors and good company. I love to share and discuss all art forms, and creating works is a very personal process for me. When I am producing art for someone, it is to celebrate the bonds we share, that is my work, and my life. I look forward to realising your perfect portrait!
I am an avid student of the physical form, and have been working all my life to distill and interpret this most remarkable of natures creations. The subtle nuances that each face present are a constant source of interest and wonder to me. I am an animal lover as well, and discovered that creating portraits of animals is just as interesting and rewarding. They all have a particular character, that I aim to connect with and capture in my work.
I can work in most media, though the most popular ones are Pencil, Charcoal, Pastel and Oil. I only use the highest quality most lightfast materials in my work, to ensure that your artwork will provide pleasure for generations to come if cared for.
With my work I always aim to make something more than just a simple reproduction or likeness. I work in a painterly style with all mediums, and try to find a balance between detail/realism, and expressive strokes.
